A tense moment was released once the talk between the Crystal Gems and Jade was over, shrugging her shoulders Garnet walked past the now known Homeworld gem and opened the burning room door. Then they all exited the room returning to the beach house. Jade had a contemplative look on her face, her palm under her chin and eyebrows knitted up in question. Though she was altered when she heard sounds of celebration and joy, and a familiar voice.
"Oh yeah! Four games in a row, take that Steven!" A shrill voice cheered. The gems turned a corner, to see Abigail dancing around in joy where Steven was sitting next to his tv. A game controller in his hands.
"Abigail?" Jade asked in confusion when she say the teen.
The girl in question froze, returning to a normal stance. "Oh. Hi mama."
"What's going on here?" Jade said.
"Steven let me play some of his video games, they're really fun, i won most of them. He's awesome!" Abigail explain, then she and Steven high-fived.
"Yeah, video game buddies." Steven added.
A wide smile spread across Jade's face. "That's wonderful, Abigail. It seems you've finally got a new friend. This is good, you're making progress." The green gem beamed with pride.
"Huh, I guess so." Abigail replied, not sure what she did to get praise.
"So, what's going to happen now?" Steven asked standing up.
"Well, now that we're done talking to Jade, I'm not exactly sure. We could just send them on their way since we're done here." Pearl thought.
"Oh, oh, can Jade and Abigail stay here. At least just for one night?" Steven proposed practically having stars in his eyes.
"Yeah, that's a good idea!" Abigail agreed.
        "Well, i don't know." Pearl wasn't sure.
"Come on, Pearl its just one night. It's the least we can do for giving them all that trouble." Garnet proclaimed, with a slight half grin.
"Well, okay. But where will they sleep?" Pearl wondered.
"Not to worry, I got this." Amethyst boasted, she then ran to the door with a star at the top, pausing for one moment for the fixtures to glow before entering inside. The door closed behind her but it reopened with Amethyst coming out with a large, though dirty, mattress in her grasp. She let it flop to the ground, a soft thump was heard as well as something squeaking. "Ta-da!" The purple gem told.
"What is that, and why did it just squeak?" Jade asked, slightly fearful
"Amethyst, our guest's are not sleeping on that thing. At the very least put some sheet on it." Pearl protested.
"No that's alright, I've got an inflatable mattress in our bags back at that motel." Jade said. "So, I'll just go and get them." Jade walked towards the screen door, opened it, then calmly walked out of the house.
"See Amethyst, now put that thing back before it sprouts mold." Pearl said pointing to the object.
"Fine." Amethyst sighed, heaving the old mattress up before flinging it back into her room.
A low grumbled drew the other gems attention. Abigail chuckled. "Sorry about that. I haven't had lunch yet."
"There's some leftover sandwiches and soda if you want some." Steven offered.
       "Yes please."
Steven made a little plate of grapes, a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich, and some lemon soda for Abigail who ate at it hungrily. She cleaned her plate just as Jade entered the house again, carrying another duffle bag and two suitcases. Jade set the bags by the couch, then began to take some items out of the other, striped duffle bag. She took out a white and blue felted bundle and a little air compressor. Jade unfolded the bundle and placed the compressor into a little nozzle at one end, flipping a switch the bundle began to rise until after a few minutes the air mattress was in its place. Jade screwed on the cap and put away the device. She then covered the mattress with a thin sheet, a pair of blankets, and a puffy pillow. Then she added a neck pillow, a stuffed red teddy bear and a small checkered blanket next to and eye mask. "There, all set for tonight."
Abigail walked over to one of the suit cases and pulled out a little music player, putting on the earphones then turning on a playlist.
The hours ticked by, and the sky grew dark. Everyone went to their respected rooms and settled down. Abigail had changed into some pajamas, simple white pants, and a grey shirt. She wore fuzzy x-mas socks on her feet. As the sky grew to night, she stretched and yawned, slowly sinking into the air mattress. Jade sat next to Abigail, rolling up her left pant leg and slowly took off the prosthetic leg she wore. Then tied the loose fabric to the girl's thigh with a rubber band. Afterwards, she placed a cross-shaped pillow under Abigail's back. Abigail snuggled up to the teddy bear and blanket, putting the eye mask over her face. She turned on her music player and put her ear buds back in, with a low yawn- she sighed.
"Night mama Jade." The teen said softly, with sleep laden in her voice.
"Goodnight, darling." Jade replied, laying a small kiss on the girl's cheek.
Abigail slid the eye mask over her eyes then relaxed. A few minutes passed before the room was filled with snoring. Jade sighed, flopped onto the cough and roughly rubbed her face. "Oh my goodness, what a day this has been." Before Jade could make sense of her thoughts, Pearl came by sitting next to her.
"So, um, I'm glad you could find things comfortable here." Pearl attempted to break the ice.
"Yeah....." The reply was nothing more than a mutter.
" We thank you for helping with that monster." Pearl added.
"You're welcome." Again a sharp reply.
Pearl paused before moving on. "uh, forgive me for prying, but I've wanted to ask this. What ever happening that made Abigail, like she is?"
"Car crash." It was firm, blunt and to the point.
